David’s 1990 Montero

What’s your name? (Screen name?)
David, “Recon” from O.D. OFFROAD
Where do you live?
Washington State
What do you do for a living?
Commercial Glass Glazier
What Mitsubishi do you drive?
1990 Montero RS
How long have you had your Montero?
3 Years
What got you into Mitsubishis?
Some local Montero owners have a Montero on 35′s and I really like the look of it.
Got a favorite story to tell about your Mitsubishi?
Going out during the flood season in Washington, to help stuck vehicles and pulling them to safety. I pulled out a 1 ton dually stuck in the mud and I was pretty impressed with the Montero.
What are your goals for the Montero and how close are you to achieving them?
I am in the process of adding an air locker out of a 1992 Montero with 4.88 gearing, build a versatile and capable vehicle that’s able to haul multiple people in total comfort not sacrificing that comfort due to modifications and for the vehicle to be safe enough to haul my wife and two small children and myself in safety in relatively dangerous terrain.
The vehicle needed to be capable of standing up to basic rolls and side falls.
What was your favorite modification? Why?
I would have to say the pine scented air freshener… just kidding. It would be that the back end has been cut off to give me a 90 degree departure angle.
What’s next for your Montero?
Finish the interior roll cage and tube doors and 5pt harnesses for all four seats.
Who has helped you the most along the way?
That would be my dad, Tom, he has been invaluable throughout the project. As well as the Mitsubishi doubters, without them I wouldn’t have pushed myself to complete this project.
Who do you look up to in the Mitsubishi community?
I look up to anyone who takes the time to put an effort in making their vehicle their own.
What do you see as being the biggest issue facing the Mitsubishi community?
The aftermarket parts that aren’t available for Monteros!
Is there a particular shop you’d like to recommend?
I didn’t put my vehicle in any shop other than the one at my dad’s house, everything was done by us.
Do you spend time on any Mitsubishi sites? Which ones?
Just CarDomain.
