Greg Wallace has been getting the most out of Mitsubishis for over a decade.  Our first Evo here at Mitsubishi Gearbox Magazine, Greg’s 2003 Evo VIII has ripped up road courses all over the midwest.  Here is a true wolf in sheep’s clothing.  “BYBY V8.”

What’s your real name? (What’s your screen name?)
Greg Wallace / 992gnt

Where do you live?
Hebron, Kentucky

What do you do for a living?
Director for a commercial printing company

What Mitsubishi do you drive?
Currently a 2003 Lancer Evolution VIII

How long have you had your Mitsubishi(s)?
I picked up my OZ Edition Eclipse GS brand new in the fall of 1999. Haven’t been without one since.

Greg's 1999 OZ Edition Eclipse.

What got you into Mitsubishi?
Seeing a certain 2gb Eclipse every morning on the commute to work and thinking “My God, that’s a sexy car!”

Got a favorite story to tell about your Mitsubishi?
There are so many, it’s hard to pick one. These cars have been at the center of my life for 10 years now, from epic lows (grenading my 3rd transmission in as many months in the Eclipse) to soaring highs (setting the NASA TTA track record at Mid Ohio Sports Car Course in the Evo in the spring of 2007). The Mitsubishi fever will soon be passed on to my oldest son, who has requested a 2g Eclipse as his first car!

Slow, deep breaths. Then squeeze the trigger. What are your goals for the car and how close are you to achieving them?
The Evo has run it’s course with mods and competition at this point. The final talley is an’04 Regional SCCA  Auto-x 2nd place, ’05 Regional SCCA Auto-x championship, ’04 DSM Shootout Stock Appearing class championship, and an ’07 NASA Great Lakes Region TTA 2nd place. The car has never left me stranded despite constant abuse that started the day I drove it off the lot.

What was your favorite modification? Why?
My current car actually has very few mods on it, all focused on reliable power. Turbocharging my Eclipse GS was way up there on the fun scale though, and I learned a ton doing it.

What’s next for your Mitsubishi? Why?
The Evo is now a fun part-time daily driver. I just can’t part with it, so a little post race-career re-hab is in order.

Who has helped you the most along the way?
2gnt.com is where I got started, and to this day is the home page on my browser. Back when I was modifying my Eclipse, unbeknownst to us, we were creating the path for future owners to follow. There was no roadmap, only our ingenuity and determination to do something different.

Guess the kids will have to stay home tonight, honey!Who do you look up to in the Mitsubishi community?
There are a lot of people that have made significant contributions that shaped this community, from Todd Day(Club DSM) and Dave Buschur (Buschur Racing), to Juan and Dino (2gnt.com), to Martin Musial (AMS Performance) and Keith Franklin (Pure Tuning). I’m lucky to have met and shared thoughts with most of these people, call several of them friends, but there are many, many more people that make the Mitsubishi Community one of the best there is.

Is there a particular shop you’d like to recommend?
The most innovative and diverse shops are where I look for knowledge, as I do my own work (like all respectable DSM owners!). Pure Tuning, Buschur Racing, and AMS Performance exemplify the best of the best.

Do you spend time on any Mitsubishi sites? Which ones?
2GNT, EvolutionM, and Mitsubishi Gearbox Magazine

Mod list:
Currently – Buschur Racing 3” Exhaust, ebay 02 housing, ’05 Evo VIII turbo, 660cc injectors, Hallman MBC, Injen UICP/Intake, Pure Tuning custom LICP, Tanabe springs, Progress rear sway bar, tune by Pure Tuning, over 300 awhp (Mustang Dyno) on 92 octane pump gas.
